The company through its wholly-owned subsidiary Lundin Norway is drilling the well to establish the depth, quality and thickness of the Jurassic reservoir sequences about 3km south of appraisal well 16/3-4 and 3km east of appraisal well 16/2-7.
The planned total depth of the well is around 2,025m below mean sea level and the drilling is expected to take about 45 days time.
Lundin Norway is also drilling the well to investigate thickness and quality of the reservoir on the eastern side of the Avaldsnes crest area.
Lundin is the operator of PL501 with 40% interest, whereas partners Statoil Petroleum and Mærsk Oil Norway hold 40% and 20% interest respectively.
