Swedish oil and gas firm Lundin Petroleum has completed the 16/1-15A sidetrack well on the Tellus prospect offshore Norway.

The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 1,986m below the sea level and its objective was to further appraise the Tellus discovery in the PL338 Block.

The well proved a 50m oil column including a thin lower Cretaceous sandstone with excellent reservoir quality overlaying fractured basement.

According to the company, the initial gross contingent resource range for the Tellus discovery is estimated at between 11 to 55 million barrels of oil equivalent of which about 90% is oil.

Lundin Petroleum is the operator of PL338 with 50% interest and its partners are Wintershall Norge with 30% and RWE Dea Norge with 20% interest.
