The well is the first in Lundin’s 2014 Malaysian drilling campaign and aims to target stacked gas reservoirs in Miocene-aged sands that was discovered by Lundin’s Tembakau-1 in 2012.
The well penetrated 60m of net gas sands in five sand intervals between 800m and 1,250m subsea.
Tembakau-2 is a vertical well that will be drilled by the jackup rig West Prospero to a depth of 1,400m in approximately 70m deep water.
The appraisal well aims to confirm the current gross contingent resource estimate of gas, test upside resource potential within the structure and provide reservoir information for development planning at an area located 3.7km to the south of Tembakau-1.
The drilling and testing of the appraisal well is expected to complete in around 60 days.
