The exploration well is located in PL338C license south of the Lundin Petroleum-operated Edvard Grieg field in the central North Sea sector of the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS).
The well 16/1-25 S has been drilled to a total depth of 2,096m below mean sea level in a water depth of 106m, using Semi-submersible drilling rig Bredford Dolphin.
The Rolvsnes well is situated on the south-western flank of the Utsira High, 6km south of the Edvard Grieg and 3km south of the Edvard Grieg South discovery.
Upon drilling, the firm encountered a gross oil column of 30 meters in porous granitic basement at the well.
Lundin conducted extensive data acquisition and sampling in the reservoir including conventional coring and fluid sampling.
A production test (DST) has also been carried out by the firm. The test achieved a production rate of 265 barrels of oil per day through a 36/64" choke.
Lundin plans to undertake potential drilling of an extended reach well from the Edvard Grieg platform with an associated long-term production test.
The 16/1-25 S, which is the second well drilled in PL 338C, will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.
Lundin estimates the gross contingent resource range for Rolvsnes to be between three million and 16 million barrels of oil equivalents (MMboe).
Lundin operates the operator PL338C with 50% interest while other partners include Lime Petroleum Norway with 30% stake and OMV (Norge) with 20% interest.
