Located 200km northwest of Florø on the Norwegian west coast and 65km northwest of the Snorre field, the well is aimed at assessing the hydrocarbon potential of the Storm prospect.
The well aims to test the reservoir properties and hydrocarbon potential of the Upper Jurassic Sandstones equivalent to the reservoir in the Magnus field on the UKCS approximately 35km to the south.
The company identified hydrocarbons at the well in Cretaceous and Jurassic reservoir sequences but not in commercial quantities.
Lundin Norway operates and has a 60% working interest in PL555 while Bayerngas Norge and Fortis Petroleum Norway hold 30% and 10% working interest, respectively.
Transocean Arctic’s drilling rig has been used to drill the well to a total depth of 4,433m below mean sea level.
