Located in PL338C, approximately 6km south of the Edvard Grieg field in the North Sea, the well 16/1-25 S aims to explore the Rolvsnes area, which is located between the Edvard Grieg field and the Luno II discovery.

Discovered in 2009 in well 16/1-12, the Rolvsnes prospect found to have a 42 m oil column in fractured granitic basement.

The new exploration well is designed to clarify the extent and size of the discovery

The well intends to assess the potential hydrocarbon reserves in thin Jurassic/Cretaceous sandstone reservoir overlying porous fractured basement.

According to Lundin Petroleum, the Rolvsnes prospect is expected to hold gross unrisked prospective resources of 107 million barrels of oil equivalents (MMboe).

Lundin will use the semi-submersible drilling unit Bredford Dolphin to drill the well to a total depth of approximately 2,275m below mean sea level.

The drilling operations are scheduled to be completed in approximately 45 days.

The partners are planning to undertake a drill stem production test and potential side-track drilling if required to further assess evaluate the commercial viability.

The PL338C license contains the Gemini prospect located about 10km from the Edvard Grieg production platform as well as proven oil in the Rolvsnes prospect discovered in weathered basement.

PL338C is operated by Lundin with 50% stake while Lime Norway has 30% stake and OMV has 20% interest.
