Under the new contract for Mahagenco’s forthcoming 1,980MW coal-fired power project at Koradi in the Indian state of Maharashtra, L&T will design, manufacture and commission super-critical boilers and steam turbine generators.
The company will also provide balance-of-plant equipment and services such as transformers, plant electrical, controls and instrumentation system and civil work. The project is expected to be completed within four years.
To evacuate the 1,980MW of power generated by the plant, Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company (MSETCL) is now planning to build a power transmission corridor, which will connect Koradi and Aurangabad with 765 kV lines.
Ravi Uppal, managing director of Mahagenco, told the Economic Times: “We are specifically focusing on thermal power projects based on supercritical technology for 660MW and above. We have bid for a number of projects this year, which are likely to be cleared in the near future.”
