Production at the Johan Sverdrup field is expected begin production n late 2019. Most of the front end engineering design (FEED) work phase is being carried out by Lloyd Register’s Bergen-based risk management consulting team.

According to Statoil, the Johan Sverdrup field is a phased development project, with the first phase being underway. The phase consists of a field centre that includes four platforms, the LQ, P1, DP, RP interconnected via bridges, along with three subsea water injection templates.

The first phase also includes export pipelines to existing infrastructure and power supplied from shore.

In the second phase of the Johan Sverdrup development covers production capacity increase, tie-back of satellites, increased oil recovery and area solution for power from shore.

As part of the second phase, an additional high voltage direct current (HVDC) system with power supply from shore will be installed. The HVDC system will supply power third party fields in the Utsira High area, such as Edvard Grieg, Ivar Aasen and Gina Krog.

Lloyd Register Risk Management Consulting team European sales manager Robert Nyiredy said: “This is a significant and important win for LR as this is one of the fifth largest development projects on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, and is one of the most important developments to be located in Norway over the next 50 years.”

Last year, Aker Solutions had conducted the conceptual study work for the second phase of the project.
