The high performance LED fixtures from Lighting Science will help lessen TXU Energy’s energy consumption by 54,700 kilowatt hours a year, which is equal to carbon sequestered by nearly 880 trees in ten years.

“The garage retrofit embodies our commitment to supporting energy efficiency solutions that, in the long run, provide a financial and environmental benefit,” states Jim Burke, chief executive officer of TXU Energy. “LED lighting is now becoming more available to commercial businesses. It was important for us to be at the forefront of applying this technology.”

Lighting Science’s pyramid shaped garage fixtures are made up of 108 LED light sources organized such that if one light source fails, the other LED light sources will carry on to illuminate a broad area. These units offer cool white light with advance color rendering, substantially enhancing night vision and offering improved security for TXU Energy employees.

The new LED fixtures provide a complete useful life of up to 50,000 hours, compared to 10,000 hours for a 175 watt metal halide lamp, enabling organizations to confidently lessen the frequency of maintenance rounds dedicated to fixing or replacing the non-working units.

LEDs represent an energy conserving and the sustainable technology as they have no mercury, or other hazardous materials usually used in many types of traditional light sources like fluorescent and compact fluorescent lighting.

“When you consider parking garage lights are on 24 hours a day, seven days a week, energy costs can amount to a significant overhead cost,” states Govi Rao, chairman and chief executive officer of Lighting Science. “LED solutions are maturing into an affordable, reliable and financially beneficial alternative to traditional lighting options, encouraging even greater adoption rates.”
