Westinghouse Electric Company has received a two-year extension to its contract for supply of nuclear fuel to Switzerland’s Leibstadt nuclear power plant.

Westinghouse’s latests fuel supply contract with Kernkraftwerk Leibstadt AG covered five reload deliveries for the 1275 MW Leibstadt boiling water reactor between 2011 and 2015. That contract is now extended for two additional deliveries in 2016 and 2017, Westinghouse said.

Under the terms of the contract, Westinghouse Electric Sweden AB will manufacture the nuclear fuel assemblies at its facility in Västerås, Sweden.

Westinghouse has been supplying fuel to Leibstadt since 1990. The company is currently supplying fuel for 147 nuclear power plants around the world.

"We believe this contract extension reflects Leibstadt’s high confidence in the quality and reliability of Westinghouse fuel," said Westinghouse Vice President and Managing Director for Northern Europe Johan Hallén.
