India-based technology, engineering, construction and manufacturing company, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), has won a contract worth INR56.89bn ($1.04bn) for the construction of a 2x660MW supercritical thermal power project in the state of Rajasthan.

The company will develop the coal-fired 1,320MW thermal plant at Chhabra city in Baran district of Rajasthan, on an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) basis.

Under the contract, L&T will design, engineer, manufacture, supply, erect, and commission two coal-fired thermal units, each with a capacity of 660MW with supercritical parameters.

The project is India’s first complete EPC order for 2x660MW supercritical units contracted by a state utility on the private sector.

L&T as per the contract is expected to complete the first unit within 42 months and the second unit in 45 months time.

With the latest contract, L&T now has orders for supply and installation of 26 Supercritical Steam Generators and Steam Turbine Generators of 660MW, 700MW and 800MW in the country.
