SOGRID is being developed by ERDF and Europe-based semiconductor firm STMicroelectronics. The project is supported by French Environment and Energy Management Agency, ADEME.
Landis+Gyr France CEO Christian Huguet said the company is bringing to the project its 25 years of experience in smart metering.
"With SOGRID, we take a step forward in laying the foundations for the grid of tomorrow, which will be more intelligent, more flexible and, above all, geared to customers’ needs", Huguet added.
Together, the consortium will develop a next-generation chip that will power millions of devices that are connected to the grid and allow them to communicate with each other.
SOGRID is being developed to set an international standard in communication based on the power line communication protocol to allow transfer of digital data over the grid.
