Japan-based JGC led consortium has won a bid of worth about $4.82bn to upgrade the 460,000-barrels-per-day (bpd) Mina Ahmadi refinery, reports Reuters.

Petrofac, a Britain-based firm, has won a bid of worth around $3.78bn to carry out work at the 270,000 bpd Mina Abdullah refinery, as well as US-based Fluor will also work on Mina Abdullah, which won a bid of worth about $3.4bn.

Kuwait National Petroleum, a state-run oil company plans to sign the contracts with the companies in April 2014.

In December 2012, Foster Wheeler has secured management and service contract from Kuwait for the clean fuels project, in a deal worth about $1.7bn.

In addition, Kuwait plans to construct a new $14bn refinery called Al Zour.
