Effective from October 2014, the ban would be intimated to the geology and mining department and the district administration for co-operation and implementation.

KU said in a meeting held recently that the geology and mining department had been issuing random coal-mining licenses since 2008 and 2009 to many firms/individuals for extraction of coal from Mon district like Tiru, Naganimora and Tizit.

Currently, none of the coalmine contractors/firms had re-filled as agreed in the accord.

The commissioner and secretary (geology and mining), commissioner and secretary (forest and environment), including district administration have been notified by KU to conduct a spot verification on the excavated area.

The union also urged the geology and mining department not issue additional coalmine license under Mon district until safety measures are implemented in the affected areas.
