Czech engineering and manufacturing company Mavel has announced the successful commissioning of the 3.3MW Kosciuszko hydroelectric power plant located on the Wisla river near Krakow, Poland.

The new plant was completed at the end of April 2003 and has installed power of 3.3MW using a water flow of 100m3/sec.

mavel was contracted by Polish firm Fundacja – Zaklad Wychowawczy im. Ks. Siemaszki to supply a complete water to wire solution. The technological solution included three 2240mm runner diameter horizontal Kaplan turbines with gear box drives and vertical synchronous generator. In addition, Mavel provided the three generators, hydraulic governors, a hydraulic gate system and cleaning machine.

The turbines were produced at Mavel’s headquarters in Benesov, Czech Republic. Each turbine has a head of 2.3-4.5m, maximum power output of 1120kW, three runner blades, 16 wicket gates and a turbine speed of 175rpm.
