Maria Korsnick, whose 28-year nuclear energy career includes executive positions at Exelon Generation and Constellation Energy Nuclear Group (CENG), is joining the Nuclear Energy Institute as a loaned executive. She will serve as chief operating officer at the NEI for 18 months, beginning in May.
Korsnick is Exelon Generation’s senior vice president for Northeast operations and chief nuclear officer for CENG, a joint venture between Exelon and EDF. In that role, she is responsible for overseeing operations at three nuclear energy facilities in Maryland and New York. She also chairs the industry’s Fukushima Response Steering Committee.
"Under Maria’s leadership, nuclear energy facilities at Constellation Energy Nuclear Group and Exelon have operated at exceptional levels of safety and performance," NEI President and Chief Executive Officer Marvin Fertel said. "Maria will provide that same organisational effectiveness, vision and leadership working with our staff and members at NEI."
The NEI also said it is increasing its focus on supplier and international programmes as part of a new division. Daniel Lipman, NEI’s executive director for policy development and supplier programmes, has been elected vice president of the new division, effective March 1.
The new organisation will work to increase support for NEI member companies that are leaders in the global nuclear energy marketplace. Lipman will lead the development of industry strategies for supplier issues, including international trade agreements, export financing, import/export controls, small modular reactor deployment, uranium fuel supply programmes and emerging domestic business opportunities.
