The 665MW Lower Pallas Valley hydropower project and the 496MW Lower Spat Gah hydropower project will be developed to be located on the left bank tributaries of the River Indus.
Korean Midland Power will develop the Lower Pallas Valley project while a consortium of Korean Midland Power and Posco Engineering and Construction will develop the Lower Spat Gah hydropower project.
Total capital investment for the two projects from the Korean firms expected to be in the region of $3bn.
Commenting on the decision to develop the two hydro power plants Federal Minister for Water and Power Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar highlighted the government’s resolve to make optimal utilization of resources for power generation in the country.
Each of the projects are expected to take five years to complete with the country’s Water and Power Development Authority directing the Private Power and Infrastructure Board to facilitate the completion of formalities and assist execution of the projects in least possible timeframe.
