The company, along with a liquid fuels and hydrogen production plant, also plans new brown coal mine and a 4500MW power facility, reported the source, quoting Rzeczpospolita daily newspaper.
The source quoting the newspaper notes that the local inhabitants are against the planned investment. If the plans continue, the local inhabitants fear that the population of around 35 villages would need to be moved to other areas.
Andrzej Jeznach, deputy president for extraction at PGE, said: ‘We are in initial talks with KGHM concerning the possibility to industrially use the deposits in Legnica.”
Mr. Jeznach continued that it would take around 15-20 years for completing the investment.
Approximately 30% of the power generation in Poland is supplied from brown coal-fired power plants.
