Naveed Ismail, the chief executive officer of KESC during his visit to the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), said: “We are now getting investments in KESC from May 2009 with the signing of the final agreement. Coal in Sindh is usable. Our future generation will never forgive us if we fail in utilizing Thar coal.”
Naveed Ismail also added that the company, in order to curtail the dependence on furnace oil and gas, is working on three coal-fired power facilities. In Pakistan the only two cheap and reliable ways to generate power on hand is coal and hydropower.
On a question regarding average billing, KESC chief, answered that: “we are trying to reduce average billing from 15%.”
Naveed Ismail continued that with an increase of single degree mercury in Karachi, there is an increase of about 50MW power consumption. During summer, the power consumption has constantly been increasing, and it is 2300MW per day till date.
