Kansas City Power & Light (KCP&L) has entered into an agreement to purchase energy generated from a 131MW wind project in Cimarron in the US state of Kansas.

The wind farm will be built and operated by CPV Renewable Energy and its construction is expected to begin this year.

The first 100MW of the power project is expected to start commercial operation by June 2012, with the remaining 31MW by the end of 2012.

KCP&L vice president of strategy and risk management Kevin Bryant said that the clean electricity that will be generated at this new wind farm helps KCP&L in meeting current and future renewable energy requirements in Kansas and Missouri.
