The double-circuit 345kV high-capacity transmission line is part of the project commonly referred to as the Y-plan.

The 110-mile line will begin near Colwich connecting to Medicine Lodge and then continuing south to the Kansas-Oklahoma border.

Construction on the power line project will begin mid-2012, and the line is expected to be in service by the end of 2014.

The preliminary estimate for the transmission line is about $225m before adjusting for changes adopted by the Kansas commission in its approval.

Prairie Wind Transmission is a joint venture between Westar Energy and Electric Transmission America.
