The transmission line will have a power transfer capacity of 1,500MW and will cost approximately $209.7m.
The project is expected to be commissioned during the last quarter of 2012 and is being financed by the African Development Bank, European Investment Bank and French Development Agency-AFD.
Kenya Electricity Transmission Company managing director Joel Kiilu was quoted by the Daily Nation as saying that the line will also be used in evacuating power from the coast to up-country and vise versa.
