The refinery with a capacity to produce 145,000 barrels per day was shut down due to the damages caused by the massive earthquake that hit Japan in March this year.

The refinery’s shipping facilities also caught fire, causing extensive damage.

The company is also planning to construct a 1MW solar facility on the site of the refinery to meet the energy needs of the plant.

JX will invest $640m for the reconstruction of the plant including the 1MW solar plant, reports Reuters.

The refinery is the last one to be restarted after the 11 March 2011 earthquake, while the other two refineries in Kashima, Negishi have started working.
