The head of Jordan Nuclear Power Company, Ahmad Hisayat, said Jordan’s first NPP is expected to be operational during 2024-2025, the official Petra news agency reported. Hisayat said in a press statement that the company and the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission are cooperating with a "consultative company" to prepare site and environmental impact studies for the construction of two reactors, which are expected to be built in the Qusayr Amra region east of Amman. Russia’s Atomstroyexport, part of state nuclear corporation Rosatom, is to build the JD7bn ($10bn) two-unit 2,000MWe plant under an intergovernmental agreement signed last year. Detailed studies of the project, will be presented to the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission's (EMRC), the Ministry of Environment and then to the local community for approval. Jordan will cover 50.1% of the Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) contract, and Rosatom will cover 49.9% as investor and operator of the plants.
