JinkoSolar and Greatcell Solar have signed an agreement that will enable Jinko to investigate the potential of perovskite solar cell technology.

Greatcell, a pioneer in the development and commercialization of perovskite technology, will make its developmental devices available to Jinko on a strictly confidential basis.

Jinko will evaluate the technology and devices with a view in the long term to entering into a formal agreement with Greatcell to commercialise the technology and establish large scale manufacturing.

“Jinko is very progressive, recognises the potential of our emerging technology and is a world leader in the solar sector,” said Richard Caldwell, managing director of Greatcell. “Moreover, Jinko has a deep understanding of risk-managed technology development and the benefits of economies of scale in manufacture. The possibilities for collaboration are enormous.”

Perovskite solar cell technology is a third-generation photovoltaic (PV) solar technology that can be applied to glass, metal, polymers or cement on buildings and other structures. It comprises ultra-thin layers of low cost materials encapsulated by protective sealants.
