Yildiz was quoted by Reuters as saying that agreement is anticipated to be signed between Turkey’s Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe on Friday.
The consortium will include Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Itochu and French utility group GDF Suez, which will also operate the 4,500MW-5,000MW plant.
The group has decided to install an Atmea type nuclear plant, built by French nuclear engineering company Areva.
Yildiz said Turkey will also have a stake in the nuclear power plant that will be constructed in Sinop.
The minister said that the consortium will also carry out work to help determine a site for Turkey’s third planned nuclear power plant.
Russia-based Rosatom will build Turkey’s first nuclear power station, while construction is expected to commence in mid-2015 and first power due to flow in 2019.
