Vietnam’s Thac Mo hydro power plant in Binh Phuoc province is to be expanded by a construction project worth about US$52M.

The expansion is to involve the construction of a new facility equipped with a 75MW turbine group a short distance below the existing power station, according to Vietnamese media reports.

Work is to begin in November 2005, with the new plant scheduled for commissioning in 2008.

Some 85% of the necessary funding is to be provided by Japan, while Electricity of Viet Nam will pay for the rest.
