The high-end industrial smart meter has been certified by Inmetro, the government-managed Brazilian metrology institute.
Itron upgraded the SL7000 smart meter with an integrated modem that optimizes communications and allows the meter to send alerts through SMS or e-mail in case of any reverse energy detection and fraud attempts.
The meter also notifies about excessive heating, quality of energy monitoring and demand excess and identifies and fix failures faster and more efficiently.
Itron Latin America electricity business line general manager Gadner Vieira said the company is offering the Brazilian market a proven product.
"Marketing the SL7000 smart meter is a very important step which will contribute to modernizing the Brazilian energy system and will prepare the market for the full deployment of smart grid technologies," Vieira added.
The SL7000 meter incorporates several measuring and billing functions for commercial and industrial and transmission and distribution markets, and enables complete integration with smart grid systems.
The meter can be configured as per the customer requirements.
