Provo Water Company has selected Itron to upgrade its water metering system in Turks and Caicos island of Providenciales.

The utility will deploy Itron’s smart water network and analytics, which will be managed using Itron Total Outcomes, Itron’s managed services offering, to more effectively deliver the islands’ limited water resources.

PWC’s potable water is produced by reverse osmosis desalination, which is a costly process. With the Itron solution, PWC can better account for water usage and reduce waste, protecting revenue and conserving resources.

The fixed network solution will give PWC greater insights into its distribution system and improve meter reading efficiency. With Itron Total Outcomes, Itron’s experienced team will oversee all aspects of PWC’s data collection system, reducing the burden of day-to-day management tasks.

Itron will also run and manage the analytic outcomes, delivering regular analytic reports and providing operational recommendations to the utility.

PWC will also use the system, integrated with its CIS billing platform, to empower its customers to better manage their water use by providing detailed usage information via a web portal. It will also offer its customers more choices for payment with prepayment and post-payment options.

Provo Water Company managing director Robert Hall said: "Itron’s smart water solution will greatly improve our distribution network visibility. We will be able to monitor and reduce non-revenue water while improving service to our customers.

"With managed services, we are able to realize these benefits efficiently, utilizing Itron’s software."

Itron sales, marketing and delivery for Water North America vice president Paula Billingham said: "Itron has the capacity and experience to provide a comprehensive managed solution to Provo Water Company, minimizing integration risk and bringing valuable knowledge and insights to the deployment.

"Beyond just a smart water solution, we are supporting PWC in achieving one of its primary business objectives through the use of our analytics software. We look forward to helping PWC achieve its goal of reducing non-revenue water and improving service and reliability to its customers."
