Eni is expected to cut its stake in its wholly-owned gas storage unit Stogit to a maximum of 20% after Italy’s energy regulator AEEG said it would be preferable for Eni’s stake to fall to as little as 5%.

The regulator has submitted a proposal to that effect to parliament and the government. With Stogit currently controling 98% of Italy’s gas storage capacity, the proposals have also urged additional investment to boost gas storage capacity.
