A consortium between Soluziona of Spain and US engineering and construction firm CH2M Hill is to carry out rehabilitation work at the Haditha hydroelectric power station in north-eastern Iraq.

The cost of the work, amounting to some US$12.75M, is to be met by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). Engineers at Soluziona, a subsidiary of the Union Fenosa group, and CH2M Hill are expected to complete the work by 15 May.

The reconstruction of the Haditha installation is the first sub-contract in a US$1.5B USACE contingency contract awarded to the consortium in January. The funds are to be used to design, build, reconstruct, operate and maintain infrastructure for USACE in the middle east, Africa and Asia.
