Ali Adyani-Rad, the Rapporteur of the Majlis Energy Commission, as saying that lawmakers had reviewed the enforcement of Article 77 in a latest meeting of the commission.

He went on to add that while the government is compelled to receive a yes vote from Majlis before signing global contracts worth above $20 billion it has not sought parliamentary approval so far.

Adyani-Rad articulated hope that the Guardian Council would identify the parliament’s right to oversee such deals.

In 2008, Iranian lawmakers have questioned the government over a series of deals as well as a gas contract between Crescent Petroleum and National Iranian Oil Company.

As per the agreement, Iran was to export 195 million cubic feet of gas to the Persian Gulf state in 2005-2006 subsequently exports of 230 million cubic feet, 300 million cubic feet and 350 million cubic feet in the space of three years.

However, Iran’s state auditors said the country could lose as much as $21 billion over the 25-year agreement if gas prices do not meet market conditions.
