Iran has updated its current build total to 88 dams and said that China is keen to invest in dams and hydro in the country, according to the latest statement from the Ministry of Energy.

The country’s previous figures, given last month, put the intended total of dams to be under construction at 85 within the coming 12 months. Until then the total in construction stood at 76, according to the ministry.

The ministry did confirm that another 176 dam projects were being studied to develop the surface water resources of the country. Dozens more dams from the list under development are to be built over the next 10 years.

China is looking to get involved in the country’s dam building and hydro power development programmes, the ministry said. It added that UN sanctions would not stand in the way of its wishes to collaborate with other countries.

Looking at hydrology, the ministry added that cloud-seeding initiatives are planned in the west and the east of the Iran.
