Iran and Syria are looking to greater co-operation on dam construction and water projects, ministers from both countries revealed during talks in Tehran.

The countries have signed an agreement to establish a joint company to undertake water and dam projects, they said.

While Iran’s Energy Minister Parviz Fattah commented favourably on the number of joint water and energy projects underway with Syria he added that there were possibilities for further ventures.

During the talks, the Syrian Irrigation Minister Nader al-Buni added that he hoped there could also be further co-operation in developing both water and electricity infrastructure in his country. Iranian firms are already working on dam projects in Syria, he noted.
