Iran has commissioned the first phase of Ilam petrochemical complex located in the west of Iran, the country’s President Hassan Rouhani said.

One of the country’s big industrial projects, Ilam petrochemical complex comprises processing units of ethylene, heavy polyethylene and sulfur filtering unit as well as other peripheral services, IRNA reported.

Located 18km from Ilam city, the new petrochemical complex has been constructed in a 122ha area.

The complex creates jobs in the province and makes optimized use of the products of gas refinery while the products are transformed to valuable petrochemical products with more added values.

Expected to produce 460,000 tons of ethylene and 120,000 tons of propylene per year, the complex was begun in 2005 with an investment of $650m plus 1 trillion rials, as reported by Shana News Agency earlier.
