The Nuclear Power Production and Development Company of Iran (NPPD), a power generation company which manages the Bushehr NPP, has agreed to invest approximately $11bn in the construction and development of two new units at the site.

The Nuclear Power Production and Development Company of Iran (NPPD), a power generation company which manages the Bushehr NPP, has agreed to invest approximately $11bn in the construction and development of two new units at the site.

The total installed capacity of the second stage of the power plant will be 2000MWe consisting two Russian-design VVER reactors of 1000MWe each. Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom will build the units under an agreement signed with the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran in November 2014 .

In 2004, Iran’s Higher Administrative Council approved the transfer of the tasks and duties of the Nuclear Power Plant Division of the AEOI to newly formed NPPD. The new company’s articles of association were then approved by the Board of Ministers.
