Iran’s Energy Minister Habibollah Bitaraf and his Tajik equivalent Jurabeck Nurmahmadov have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to construct the Sangtudeh 2 dam and power plant in Tajikistan, according to IranMania News.

The US$220M structure is to be built on Vakhsh river in Nurek district and should generate 220MW. According to the 19-article document, Iran will construct the project and supply US$180M.

A company named ‘Sangtudeh 2 Project’ will be established in Tajikistan to oversee the project.

Nurmahmadov predicted that Sangtudeh 2 will come online in 2009.
