The order, which was placed for Invenergy’s New Texas wind project located in Mills County, is touted to be the first order for GE’s new 2.5-120 wind turbines that are incorporated with short-term battery storage.
The new model turbines integrate GE’s advanced Durathon Battery technology with three software applications enabling wind turbines to make data-informed decisions and provide short-term predictable power.
GE renewable energy business wind product line general manager Keith Longtin stated that this incorporation of software and battery storage within a wind turbine would further wind power’s efficiency and short-term predictability.
Invenergy president and chief executive officer Michael Polsky remarked: "As America’s largest independent wind power generation company, innovation is critical to our continued industry leadership.
"We’re pleased that this new brilliant turbine will provide cutting-edge technological advancements, particularly in renewable energy integration with storage," added Polsky.
