Located about 80 miles southwest of Chicago, the project complements the company’s portfolio at Grand Ridge Energy Center.
The energy center features a 210MW wind farm, a 20MW solar project and a 1.5MW energy storage unit.
Invenergy transmission and regulatory affairs vice-president Kris Zadlo said: "Invenergy believes that energy storage holds the potential to be a transformative force in the evolution of the electric grid."
The company plans to commission 31.5MW Beech Ridge energy storage project in West Virginia later this year.
The two projects feature containerized energy storage system supplied by BYD America.
BYD Company senior vice-president Stella Li said: "We are delighted with Invenergy’s selection of BYD’s Energy Storage system, which features our proprietary Lithium-ion Iron-Phosphate battery chemistry."
