Through the RFP, the company seeks firm long-term supplies of non-intermittent capacity and energy delivered to IPL’s electric service area.

IPL projects an electric capacity need of about 550MW by 1 June 2016.

The RFP solicits ownership and long-term purchased power agreement proposals for new or existing resources, or access to a portion of the output of a system of resources, to supply all or a portion of its long-term electric capacity and energy needs.

Electronic proposals are due by 22 March 2012.

IPL president Tom Aller said the RFP is one component of the company’s comprehensive due diligence efforts to secure long-term electric power supply options that are in the best interests of our customers.

"Our company’s long-term generation strategy focuses on providing a balanced generation portfolio to manage costs on behalf of our customers; continuing to provide safe and reliable energy service and maintaining flexibility to meet future energy needs and adapt to change," Aller said.
