A consortium of Indonesian, Indian and UK companies has won a contract to built a 500 kV transmission project in Java. The $40 million contract was awarded by the Indonesian state power company, PLN.

The project involves construction of a 500 kV transmission link between Ungaran and Pedan and a 500 kV/150 kV substation at Pedan. The transmission line will transmit power from large power plants under construction in central Java to the main demand centres in west Java.

The consortium responsible for the project comprises the Indonesian group Dwipanggi Sakti Prima, the Indian company RPG Group and Rolls-Royce. The project, which involves 75 km of 500 kV single circuit overhead line and 6 km of 150 kV four-circuit, overhead line, is due to be in place by early 1999.
