Information Builders said its WebFocus business intelligence software is starting to carve out a strong niche in the petroleum sector after signing up a trio of large North American oil and gas providers.

The New York-based software maker said that Valero Energy, Hunt Petroleum and Petro-Canada have implemented WebFocus to analyze their operations and improve profitability and decision making.

Valero Energy chose WebFocus as its BI standard for its strong Excel and SAP Portal integration and ad hoc reporting capabilities.

Hunt Petroleum was attracted by WebFocus’s real-time reporting capabilities, dashboard management and data integration capabilities through iWay, an Information Builders subsidiary.

Generating our monthly AFE [authorization for expenditure] reports was a 16-hour, multi-day, activity due to the need to pull data from so many different sources, said Kevin Leaverton, CIO Hunt Petroleum.

With WebFocus, it now takes us two minutes to access all the data and create this report.

Petro-Canada meanwhile uses WebFocus for consolidated financial reporting needs across the enterprise.

Information Builders said the companies join dozens of other oil and gas companies on its books.
