Czech firm Mavel is to supply a new Kaplan turbine to the Infernos hydro power plant in Porto, Portugal doubling the facility’s installed capacity by next year.
The order is to include a vertical Kaplan turbine type KVK 1900K4 with an output of 1019kW and speed of 187.5rpm; trash racks, cleaning machines; gates; generator and hydraulics.
EFACEC Engenharia, the company which placed the order is to provide the electrical and control system.
The project will see the replacement of two Francis turbines rated at 300kW and 150kW with commissioning of the new system by March 2005.
The Infernos plant is owned by Textil Manuel Gancalves and has a head of 6.2m and flow of 19m3/sec.
