Jointly financed by Japanese and South Korean investors, Semangka hydropower plant project is likely to commence operation no later than 2018, Xinhua News Agency reported.
The Semangka hydropower plant in the province’s Tangganya regency is expected to cost IDR1.7tn (approximately $172.9m).
Xinhua News Agency cited PLN communications director Bambang Dwiyanto as saying that the "PLN will build the transmission network to the main power reserve facility as long as 33.4 kilometers with a capacity if 150 kilo volt."
PLN will acquire the power produced by the hydropower plant, which would supply electricity in Sumatra up to 278.97GW per hour annually.
Aimed to meet the increasing demands of electricity, Indonesia is focusing on development of energy sector from renewable sources.
