PT International Nickel Indonesia (PT Inco) invites registration for pre-qualification to tender for the main civil construction contract for Karebbe hydroelectric dam and power plant in South Sulawesi, Republic of Indonesia.
The work is expected to commence in the 3rd/4th quarter of 2006 subject to the completion of the pre-qualification procedures and subject to the issuing of the tender documentation in the 2nd quarter of 2006.
Scope of work
The Karebbe project is located on the Larona river downstream of PT Inco’s existing Larona and Balambano hydro projects .The contract scope includes construction of an 80m high roller compacted concrete (RCC) dam and conventional concrete spillway, power intake and power house structures. Site preparation is essentially complete and construction of the diversion channel and tailrace have been contracted to commence during 2nd Qtr 2006. Final design of the facility is being completed by SNC Lavalin and supply and installation of the turbine and generators have been contracted to VA Tech Hydro.

Eligibility requirements
Contractors submitting the completed questionnaire will be required to demonstrate sufficient acceptable expertise, including availability of experienced personnel, use of specialised equipment and methods in construction of complex (2 X 78MVA) hydroelectric power houses and the type of dam being designed, including anticipated sequencing and production rates to meet key dates
The power house is incorporated into the downstream of the dam located under the spillway chute. Construction of the facility involves complex concrete pours and requires highly coordinated scheduling of the works and interface with other contractors.
Foreign contractors will also be required to provide evidence of their ability to contract to work in Indonesia through a joint co-operation with an Indonesian (PT) Company, or through an arrangement that will ensure full compliance with Indonesia legal and regulatory requirements for foreign contractors working in Indonesia .A guideline for foreign contractors working in Indonesia is provided in the prequalification Questionnaire.

Respondents will then be forwarded a pre-qualification questionnaire in electronic format by PT Inco, which will contain details of all the information required to be submitted together with the closing date for submissions.
Only contractors who pass the pre qualification will be invited to participate in a sealed bid, managed in accordance with procedures overseen by PT Inco’s Contracts Board.
