Indian states of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh have formed INR6.5bn ($111.8m) hydro power venture to develop a 60MW hydro project and renovate a 120MW hydro project.
The two state governments are expected to invest INR3.5bn ($60.2m) for the 60MW hydro project that comprises two units of 30MW each across the Sileru River at Chitrakonda, south Odisha, reported Business Standard.
In addition, they have also agreed to renovate 120MW Machhakunda project putting in an investment of INR3.5bn ($51.6m).
Under the arrangement, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh will equally share the power output from both the projects.
The newspaper quoted Odisha energy secretary Pradip Jena as saying that the joint venture between the two governments was
proposed long time back and they have now decided to proceed with the construction.
"The over 50-year-long dispute between the two states over sharing of power from Machhakunda plant has now been solved with both the states agreeing to the formula of drawing same amount of power from the station," added Jena.
The project is expected to commence after outlining a draft agreement to be approved by both the state governments.
