Located in Narippatta and Vanimel areas of Vadagara, the 7.5MW power project has been developed on Vaniyampuzha and Kavadipuzha, the tributaries of the Mahe River, The Hindu reported.
A part of ‘Mission 676’ of the state government, the project was initially slated for completion in March 2012, but has been delayed due to non-availability of required land and adverse climatic conditions.
The completed project comprises two small dams 44.5m-long Panoth and 72m-long Valookku as well as two associated canals, a fore-bay tank, Penstock, three 2.5 MW generators, and a 124m-long tailrace channel.
Annually, the project would generate 22.59 million unit power, which will be delivered to the Nadapuram sub-station using a 14.4km-long, 33KV underground cable.
Poulose George Construction Company has conducted civil works of the INR594.9m ($9.8m) project while Flowel Energy carried out electro-mechanical works.
