India’s Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has inaugurated two new hydro power projects in the country.

The PM laid the foundation stone of Chutak, which is located in Kargil and is designed to generate 44MW during the normal season and 12MW during the winter, and also launched the 45MW Nemo Bazgo hydroelectric project, which will cater for the Leh region.

Singh announced the power development projects at the conclusion of his three-day visit to the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir. He insisted that there is vast potential for hydroelectric power generation in the state, and that launching these hydro power projects at far off areas like Leh and Kargil would prove a milestone in the power generation sector.
