Indian inter-ministerial group (IMG) has asked the Coal Ministry to issue show cause notices to mining companies over the delay of coal production from around 40 mines allotted for captive use.

IMG has made the suggestion after reviewing the progress of 56 coal blocks, which revealed poor progress at 40 mines.

The companies that are to be issued notices include Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL), Madanpur South Coal Company, a joint venture of Hindustan Zinc (HZL) and Ultratech.

During a meeting, IMG has also urged Coal Ministry to send notices to state-run companies such as Chhattisgarh Captive Coal Company and to Madhya Pradesh State Mining Corporation for Nakia I and Nakia II coal block, and Morga -IV respectively.

The developments are in line with notices issued by concerned ministry to holders of 30 coal blocks including NTP, GVK Power and Monnet Ispat.
