Implemented through Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) within 42 months from the date of release of the first installment of funds, the transmission project is expected to provide grid connectivity and reliable power supply to Ladakh region.
The project cost will be shared by the central and state governments in the ratio of 95:5 to ensure the latter’s interest in the project.
The system will pass through the Drass, Kargil & Khalsti 220/66kV PGCIL substations, and when commissioned, will be transferred to the J&K government who will perform operation & maintenance (O&M) and other related activities at their own cost as per the terms and conditions in the yet to be signed memorandum of understanding (MoU).
Ladakh’s electric supply system is currently isolated from the northern grid, and is fed through local small hydro generation and diesel generator sets.
